The Value of Gratitude

The month of November is devoted to learning about gratitude.
Teaching our kids to be grateful can sometimes be hard when we find ourselves sorrounded by a materialistic environment. A good thing to do is not to always give our kids everything they ask for; they have to understand that things have a cost and that it is better to deserve for them. For example if they are old enough to receive an allowance, you can teach the value of saving some money to buy "that thing they want so much". Another thing you can do is teach them to take good care of the things they have; these are ways to teach gratitude.

Another good thing you can do as a parent is to show them how to write thank you notes, especially after a celebration or holiday; this is a very nice custom and is never out of style.

Remember that you have to walk your talk! Use the words "thank you" over and over, whenever you find the opportunity and you'll see how your kids will catch on.

I'm attaching a video that I found in youtube.com, from the Great and Good Science Center, on how to teach gratefulness to kids; I think you might find it usefull.
